Good design in Great BritainCase Study:-4Point5

Commissioned by Tantronics Ltd, PR Designs was asked to design a portable housing for the popular Psion Series 5 personal organiser. the brief included extra battery power availability and once 'docked' the Psion organiser could work off battery or mains power. Whilst connected to mains power both the organiser  and battery pack could be charged!

Docking Station for the PSION Point 5

The 4Point5 from Tantronics Ltd, home of the Point5 pointer

Designed for the demanding role of the series 5 user who is constantly away from an available power source. The stylish and elegant 4Point5 can boost the operational time by either  20 or 30 hours depending on battery type. The 4Point5 includes automatic power connection to the battery supply when the series 5 is docked with the unit.

Designed from several aluminium extrusions, the unit incorporates a battery compartment, a location for the PCB, a storage area for extra styluses and a clever design for adjusting the viewing angle of the LCD display of the series 5. This is accomplished by 2 swiveling legs either side of the unit giving 3 possible viewing angles.

The lid has an integral designed hinge that also allows the lid to detach from the base. The lid 'clicks' to close and stays shut during transportation.

The ends of both the lid and the base are machined from solid aluminium and are fixed to the extrusions by the use of linear threads.

The whole unit can be offered in a variety of anodised finishes.
